Leave those scraps!
We have a large bin in our kitchen that collects all of our scraps. By skipping the taproom trash cans for anything compostable– which is everything but the recycling! — you can keep more food scraps out of the landfill. We love when you bring your dishes up to the counter, so feel free to save those pizza bones for our bussers to compost!
AT HOME ::
Get set up on weekly or biweekly pickup schedule with Tidewater Compost and start composting anything that grows! You’ll get a bin, a kitchen caddy, bin liners, and a Quick Guide fridge magnet to make it easy for anyone to compost. The most fun part is the monthly metrics report where we find out how much our composting efforts have offset environmental damages!

Tidewater Compost strives to positively impact our environment and improve our local food systems through healthy living soils. Our table to farm initiative helps divert organic waste from landfills to close the food loop, while improving the soils in our communities.
Healthy soils are essential for protecting watersheds. Compost enhances soil by improving the biological, chemical and physical properties of the soil, creating a natural filter that can reduce urban stormwater pollutants by an astounding 60-95%. It increases soil fertility and microbial activity, increases resilience to floods and droughts, prevents against desertification and erosion, improves water retention and soil structure, reduces the need for any chemicals, and adds humus which keeps soil particles stuck together.
Compost impacts more than you think!
Composting is the aerobic decomposition of organic materials by microorganisms. It transforms raw materials such as napkins, Voyager Coffee cups, Bakehouse pizza crusts, along with garden trimmings and other green materials from our neighbors, into COMPOST, a valuable earthy-smelling soil conditioner that teems with life.
One person’s trash is another’s black gold! Every year, U.S. landfills and trash incinerators receive 167 MILLION tons of garbage, and of that, it is estimated that about half is compostable.
