The Curse Of Strata | collabELATION x The Garage Brewery, Chesapeake VA
American Pale Ale | 4.8% ABV | 40 IBU
ROLL INITIATIVE! Elation and the Garage teamed up for a pale ale inspired by D&D’s famous Curse of Strahd campaign! This beer was brewed using floor malted pale malts, backed by honey and Munich malt, giving a semi-sweet, light bodied brew, covered in a mantle of Chinook, Cascade, and Strata hops to give a solid hop BITE of hi-chew mango candy, dank resin, and bright citrus.
This special collaboration with our Highland Park neighbor, Will Sawyer, head brewer at The Garage Brewery in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, has been so much fun on so many levels. Our brewer, Noah, and Will both enjoy Dungeons & Dragons and delicious hops. Pouring in these Strata hops was an entire sensory experience! Strata hops are known for their complex and layered flavor profile:: fruity, dank, and herbal notes. You’ll find tropical fruits, passionfruit and mango, along with citrus, grapefruit and even strawberry.
Will and Noah were both extra stoked to brew with Strata hops and to brew a nice, easy drinking pale ale. Strata was such an interesting hop to use for this pale ale and it turned out as an awesome addition to a classic style. Noah emphasizes that he has been SO stoked to work with Will on this beer and that he was a blast to brew with. Collaborations are always the best: Good community, good beer, good vibes… What more could a brewer ask for?? In a sentiment we fully echo, Will also tells us he is very happy to work with Noah and the Elation Family on this project from recipe, to brew day, to tasting notes, to artwork- which he commissioned from an artist connected to The Garage in the past.
The artist, Chris Maxwell aka @Dementula_3D, is a 29 year old VB local who has always been drawn towards being creative and using painting and drawing as an outlet for that creativity from a very young age. In his off times he enjoys IPAs and pale ales, rock climbing, hiking, and being in nature.
Starting work as a professional artist in 2022, he has primarily worked with bands within the current metal/death metal/deathcore scene, such as Carnifex, Chelsea Grin, and Shadow Of Intent. This piece specifically was so much fun as it’s still within the realm of the death metal style artwork I normally do but more on the gothic fantasy side. A huge fan of movies and video games like Castlevania, Vampire Hunter D, and Dracula. This piece took huge inspiration from those sources.
Look out for posters and tshirts for sale in the near future!
